Granbazán’s Limousin is the only wine from the Rías Baixas DO to win the highest award in the Best of Spain Wine Challenge
Limousin, with a Grand Gold, and Veigalobos, with a Gold medal, were two of the standout wines at the prestigious competition held in Holland
The influential ‘Best of Spain Wine Challenge 2022’ competition, promoted by the Spanish Wine Tasters Association in the Netherlands and Ireland, has announced the winning wines of the most recent holding of the event.
Among the standout wines were two from Bodegas Granbazán. First, Limousin, won a Grand Gold, the only wine from the Rías Baixas DO to do so (only 10 wines from the whole of Spain achieved this highest accolade). Next up, our Veigalobos wine was awarded a Gold medal, one of only two Albariño wines to achieve this, so hats off to Veigalobos de Granbazán
The Best of Spain Wine Challenge is an initiative organised by the Spanish Tasters Union in different countries (this year the Netherlands and Ireland) with the aim of strengthening the international profile and marketing of the best wines produced in Spain.
The tasting jury included wine critics from the Netherlands and Ireland, including Master of Wine Lynne Coyle, as well as sommeliers and wine buyers from the leading wine companies in the two countries.
A year of triumphs
Granbazán went from strength to strength in 2022. For starters, Limousin earned a Gold medal and was rated 95 points at the International Wine Challenge (London), to which can be added Gold at Mundus Vini, Grand Gold from the Wines of Galicia Guide, and a 93-point rating from Wine Enthusiast magazine.
Along with the above, Veigalobos wines were rated at 94 points in the 2022 Peñín Guide and 95 points in this year’s Proensa Guide to the best Spanish wines.
